Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose Alii Nui?
We take pride in treating our customers like the royalty they are. Our vessel is the widest and most stable on the island, ensuring a comfortable ride for everyone. We provide top of the line equipment, food, drinks, and customer service. On the Alii Nui, we can accommodate your needs and make sure that you truly have plenty of time to sit back and relax. Along with our complimentary transportation, we make a priority to ensure all of our guests are catered to from before they even arrive.
Do you offer transportation?
Yes! Complimentary shuttle service is available from condos and resort complexes on the West and South side of the island. Shuttle service has limited availability.
Can I bring my kids on board?
Absolutely! Our snorkel charters and afternoon whale watches are excellent for the entire family. The shaded cabin provides a great area for guests to get away from the sun and wind. Plus, kids 0-3 years old are free!
Do I need to bring my own towels or sunscreen?
We provide our guests with reef-safe, non-chemical sunscreen that adheres to local guidelines to protect our waters. Guests are welcome to bring their own as well, so long as it also adheres to local guidelines. We provide plenty of towels for all of our guests.
Do I need to know how to swim to go snorkeling?
We always recommend that our guests are comfortable in the water if they intend to snorkel. While we do provide flotation equipment such as float belts, pool noodles, and boogie boards, there is no area for guests to stand once they are in the water.
Do you offer any special discounts?
All local residents possessing a valid state ID can enjoy our Kama’aina discount. Additionally, we offer a discount for our military and first responders.
What is HUKA diving?
Huka Diving is an exciting underwater adventure available on Alii Nui that doesn’t require any certification or training! Huka Diving utilizes a surface supplied air system that allows the participant to submerge under the water, breathing from a regulator, and dive without the hassle of wearing tanks and gear. Anyone over the age of 10 may get to experience this 20-30 minute adventure while being led by a certified dive guide.
How many people go on your trips?
Alii Nui is certified for 110 passengers, but for the sake of space we never fill to full capacity. Our morning/afternoon snorkels and whale watches max out at around 60 guests. For our adults-only Royal Sunset Sail, we only take a maximum of 40 passengers to ensure plenty of room while dining.
What is your cancellation policy?
Any cancellations or adjustments made outside of 24 hours from the tour date will result in a full refund. If the cancellation or adjustment must be made within the 24-hour window, please contact our reservations department to discuss your options. In most cases, refunds will not be authorized within the 24-hour window.
Is there parking available at the harbor?
Should you decide to not take advantage of our complimentary transportation, there is plenty of parking available at Ma’alaea Harbor. Alii Nui is located on the outside pier, about half-way down. Guests are welcome to park on the pier near the boat. Please be aware this is paid parking ($1.06/hour) and can be reserved in advance using the ParkWhiz app or using the QR signs posted throughout the harbor.
Can I book Alii Nui for a private charter?
Absolutely! We have a dedicated team to take care of large groups and special charter requests. Give us a call or fill out our interest form so that we can learn more about what you’re hoping to do! Whether it’s a wedding, company party, or just a large group, we’re here to make your trip perfect.
What happens in the case of bad weather?
In the event of foul weather, our captain may decide to cancel a charter. In this case, our team will be in contact with all guests to discuss options.
Is there a place to store my bags on the boat?
Yes! There is plenty of storage under the bench seating on the boat for your bags.
Can I still snorkel if I wear glasses?
We carry a wide variety of prescription snorkel masks for guests that need corrective lenses.
We can provide prescriptions from -1.5 to -6.0 in 0.5 increments. Inform a reservationist or crew member and we will do our best to accommodate your needs!
Are there bathrooms on board?
Yes! There are two oversized bathrooms on board that are large enough for guests to change or escort young kids to the restroom.
Is your vessel handicap accessible?
In order to access Alii Nui, guests will need to walk down a pier and step across a gap onto the dock. A crew member will be there to assist with the large step. Additionally, there are 2-4 steps down into the cabin and to the restrooms. We cannot accommodate walkers or wheelchairs onboard the vessel.
How do we get into the water for snorkeling?
Alii Nui has a pair of descending staircases with handrails that lower right into the water! Guests will be able to walk down the stairs and swim out. Always remember to put your fins on once you’re at the bottom of the stairs and not while trying to walk. For our more adventurous guests, feel free to jump off the side of the deck and show us your splash skills.
